Holy Saturday and Your Work

We call this Holy Week–a sacred time when we remember the last week of Jesus’ life, beginning with his presentation as King on Palm Sunday (The king we need, not the king we want), and culminating in his resurrection the following Sunday. Tucked into the flow of Easter is Saturday.

Holy Saturday is the silent day. Sandwiched between the apparent tragedy of Good Friday and the resounding victory of Sunday is Saturday. A nondescript day of waiting in uncertainty for Jesus' followers. Waiting and uncertainty, these words describe multiple seasons of our work lives.

We talk to many people at VOCA who have this gnawing sense they’re not giving themselves to the work they were meant to do.

We meet many for whom their current job used to connect to their gifts and sense of purpose, but no longer strikes those notes.

We meet leaders who believe they need to make a move with a team member or strategy, and yet, now is not the time for various reasons.

We hear a lot of angst as to what I call the “wait-and-see economy” enters another chapter of pause due to shifting tariff policy.

Holy Saturday creates space for us to embrace the uncomfortable in between, the gap between the now and the not yet. We find real relief here as many of us navigate uncertainty, unanswered desires for growth and challenge, and threats to what we thought was our God-designed vocational future.

Jesus' journey at Easter gives us the power to navigate these seasons without rushing to find resolution. We can live there, waiting, because we know how the story ends.

Take some time this Saturday to mark the untidy unknowns of your career and sit with the disciples waiting for the dawn of a powerful new day.

Fighting with you to find God’s best for your work,

The VOCA Team
